Chapter 502 - 386: Qingcao’s Big Butt
Chang Ye’s eyes filled with admiration as he watched Wu Yue continue to smooth the walls of the vat. Under Lord Wuyue’s hands, it was almost as if the vat were turned upside down, yet the clay coils on top miraculously refused to fall.
When the man beside her suddenly stared at her with the sparkling eyes of a fan seeing his idol, Wu Yue shivered, goosebumps instantly breaking out on her skin.
She turned her head, her expression growing serious. "Watch closely. This piece of pottery is very important."
Chang Ye quickly reined in his star-struck adoration and focused his gaze intently on Wu Yue’s movements.
Only after securing the last clay coil did Wu Yue let out a huge sigh of relief. The finished vat stood as high as her thigh.
After inspecting it carefully one more time, Wu Yue finally exhaled and sat down on a nearby wooden plank.
"You can try making a smaller one now. Once you’re more practiced, you can try a bigger one," Wu Yue said, noticing his nervousness.
’She knew very well how difficult this was. In fact, ever since she’d started making the unfired bricks and tiles, she had always taken some clay back with her to practice making jars and vats.’
’Although this was her first time making a vat this large, her countless previous practice sessions had been very useful. At the very least, she hadn’t made the coils crooked, and the walls of the vat were reasonably smooth.’
Chang Ye glanced at the unfired vat Wu Yue had made, then gave a solemn nod. "I will."
Afterward, one of them worked while the other watched.
To Wu Yue’s surprise, Chang Ye was a very fast learner. And, perhaps due to a man’s greater strength, he was even more skillful and effortless than she was when it came to bonding the clay coils to the vat’s walls.
Though it was his first time and he was still unfamiliar with the process, Chang Ye’s natural dexterity allowed him to finish a calf-high piece of unfired pottery—what could only be called a jar—in a fairly short amount of time.
Wu Yue went over to inspect it. Every coil was bonded perfectly to the jar’s wall, leaving no visible seams.
However, because he had used a wooden stick, the jar’s walls weren’t as smooth as the one Wu Yue had finished with her shell knife.
Even so, Chang Ye stood to the side, cautiously stealing glances at her.
’My unfired pot is obviously much cruder than the one Lord Wuyue made. The scrape marks from the wooden stick are really obvious, too.’
Wu Yue gave Chang Ye an appreciative look. "You did a great job, Chang Ye. This is a very well-made jar."
She smiled warmly at the man, whose face was filled with pleasant surprise. "Do you have the strength to make a large one?"
Having received Lord Wuyue’s praise, Chang Ye felt as if he’d received a blessing from a legendary Witch, his body brimming with energy.
"Yes! I have lots and lots of strength! I can make lots and lots of vats!"
Wu Yue didn’t point out that the calf-high piece he’d made could only be called a jar. She just smiled and said, "Then let’s try making a large vat this time."
Then, after Chang Ye got to work, she gestured for the nearby slaves to come over and move the large vat she had made and the jar Chang Ye had made into the cave.
Chang Ye did not disappoint. After successfully making one jar, he managed to create a large vat in less than half the time it had taken her.
Looking at the large vat before her, which was even a little more handsome than her own, Wu Yue couldn’t help but look at Chang Ye with renewed appreciation. "Take it to the cave to air-dry."
"Lord Wuyue, when will this pottery be fired?"
Wu Yue smiled at him. "A piece of pottery this large will need several days just to air-dry. Go check on it in the cave from time to time. Once it’s dry, you can send it directly to be fired."
Chang Ye felt a weight of responsibility settle on his shoulders, but his heart was filled with immense joy.
’Lord Wuyue is entrusting me with something!’ The thought made him tremble with excitement.
"That’s all for now. Go get something to eat."
Watching Wu Yue’s departing figure, the slaves who had been observing from a distance for a long time finally gathered around.
"Chang Ye, was Lord Wuyue unhappy about the chicken-raising incident?"
"Yeah, if Lord Wuyue is unhappy, we’ll stop raising them."
"Lord Wuyue isn’t disappointed in us, is she?"
Looking at the unease and fear on his companions’ faces, Chang Ye sighed. "Lord Wuyue hasn’t abandoned us, but we were indeed wrong about the chicken-raising. Don’t bring it up again."
Hearing this, huge smiles instantly spread across the faces of the surrounding slaves.
"As long as Lord Wuyue doesn’t despise us, we’ll do anything."
