Once the monster codenamed "Hound" reports its coordinates, everything will be over.
"unnecessary."
Unexpectedly, the "hunting dog's" voice was full of mockery and disdain.
“I can handle two injured rats by myself. Let those idiots go after the big rat in the Stars and Stripes. This prey is my private time.”
There was a few seconds of silence on the communication channel.
Then, the commander's voice rang out again: "Alright. Lord Schmidt said that you can do whatever you want with these two little mice."
The communication has ended.
The cave was deathly silent.
"As you wish."
These four words represent a death sentence.
“Chu…” Gabe’s voice trembled uncontrollably as he gripped his M1 carbine tightly. “Listen to me, this is your last chance. I’ll count to three, and then I’ll rush out and make the biggest commotion. You…you take the opportunity to run into the river, and don’t look back!”
"Shut the fuck up!" Chu Hang roared, interrupting him and grabbing Gabu by the collar, his eyes bloodshot. "Not again? In the state you're in, how many seconds can you last if you rush out? What use are you besides throwing your life away!"
It's not that he doesn't want to live; he wants to live more than anyone else!
But he couldn't leave Gabu here alone.
Calm down! You must calm down!
Chu Hang released Gabu and turned around, panting heavily. The icy air stung his lungs, but it also calmed his wildly beating heart a little.
He closed his eyes, forcing himself to replay all the information he had just heard.
"Hound," a man, extremely arrogant.
Captain America is surrounded by a large Hydra force on the western ridge.
All units... all Hydra combat units have been deployed to besiege Captain America...
Chu Hang suddenly opened his eyes. A beam of light pierced the darkness in his mind.
This is a crisis, but it is also an opportunity!
"The Hound's" arrogance led him to choose to come alone. And Captain America, as bait, lured all the other Hydra soldiers to the west side!
This means that the riverbank area where they are now is a troop vacuum, except for the approaching "hound"!
As long as... as long as we can lure away this only threat!
How can I distract him?
Chu Hang's gaze fell on the black iron box next to Gabe's hand—Hydra's radio communicator!
An incredibly audacious plan took shape in his mind.
“Gabe,” Chu Hang turned around abruptly, lowering his voice, his eyes gleaming in the darkness, “Do you believe me?”
Gabu was taken aback by his question. Looking at the expression on Chu Hang's face, which was a mixture of madness and excitement, he nodded heavily: "I believe you."
"Alright!" Chu Hang's lips curled up uncontrollably. "Then let's go big! Let's play a feint attack on that son of a bitch!"
"Founding in the east and attacking in the west?"
“That’s right!” Chu Hang snatched the communicator and waved it in front of Gabe. “Didn’t he think we were hiding around here like rats? Well, we’ll use this to show him he was wrong!”
Gabe's eyes widened instantly: "You mean...using their communicators to spread false information?"
"What else?" Chu Hang squeezed out through gritted teeth, "Sit here and wait for him to find the cave entrance and then send us on our way? Gabu, this is our only chance!"
Gabe's Adam's apple bobbed. This plan was too risky, it was utterly insane! If they were discovered, they'd be dead even faster.
But... just like Chu Hang said, this is the only chance.
“…How do we do it?” Gabe asked through gritted teeth.
“It’s very simple.” Chu Hang spoke very quickly. He took out C4 plastic explosives and a pencil detonator from his backpack. “Wait a moment, use this communicator to imitate the tone of a patrolman, and report in the most panicked tone you’ve ever used that you’ve discovered us upstream and that we’ve already exchanged fire! To make the report more realistic, I’ll detonate this,” Chu Hang waved the explosives in his hand, “upstream!”
Gabe understood completely: "No matter how capable he is, he's still just a human! When he hears a clear report of a firefight and the sound of an explosion, he'll instinctively think he misjudged the situation! He'll immediately rush to the direction you detonated!"
“That’s right!” Chu Hang snapped his fingers. “As long as we can lure him away, even if it’s just for ten minutes, we’ll immediately get out, jump into the river, and run downstream! By the time he realizes he’s been tricked, we’ll be long gone!”
“Okay! Let’s do it!” Gabe no longer hesitated, took the communicator, and the flame of survival rekindled in his eyes.
"Get ready, think about what to say, it has to be convincing! The more panicked the better!" Chu Hang shoved the communicator into Gabu's hand, then, holding the explosives, his eyes grave, said, "I'm going out for five minutes to set this up. Remember, when I come back, the moment I give the hand signal, you report immediately!"
After saying that, Chu Hang stopped talking nonsense, took a deep breath, lowered his body, and silently crawled out of the hole.
The air outside was icy cold.
Braving the wind and snow, Chu Hang chose a rocky outcrop on the riverbank about 300 meters upstream. He stuffed the C4 explosive into a crevice in the rock, inserted the detonator, and left only a small section of the fuse exposed.
After doing all this, he immediately returned the way he came, carefully stepping on the footprints he had left behind.
As he crawled back into the hole like a snowman, Gabe was gripping the communicator tightly, his lips moving as he practiced his lines repeatedly.
Chu Hang gave him a thumbs up and leaned against the rock wall to calm his racing heart.
Success or failure depends on this.
He nodded to Gabe and slowly made a "start" gesture.
Gabe's forehead was covered in sweat. He gritted his teeth and pressed the call button.
The next second, a shout in German, filled with extreme panic and heavy breathing, came out of the communicator!
"Calling command! Calling hounds! I'm on the upstream riverbank in area A3! Target spotted! It's those two fugitives! They're heavily armed! I need backup! They're fleeing upstream! Requesting backup! Requesting..."
boom--! ! ! !
Before Gabe could finish his cry for help, a muffled but clear explosion rang out in the distance!
The violent explosion was amplified by the radio waves, turning into a deafening roar that echoed throughout Hydra's communication channels.
In an instant, all the background noise in the channel disappeared.
Inside the cave, Chu Hang and Gabu held their breath, staring intently at the small iron box.
Did that monster fall for it?
Time seemed to slow down.
Finally, after a deathly silence, that cold, "hound-like" voice rang out again.
"The upstream riverbank of area A3... is very good."
"All units shall remain in place and not be allowed to approach."
The voice paused, then spoke slowly, enunciating each word clearly.
"These two mice are more interesting than I expected."
"I'll be there soon."
Chapter 15 Run! Run now!
"I'll be there soon."
When the cold voice on the communicator uttered its last syllable and then fell silent, the air in the entire cave seemed to freeze.
Gabu's face was deathly pale. He looked at Chu Hang, his lips moved, but he couldn't utter a single word. His eyes were filled with doubt and fear.
Did that monster really believe our lies and run upstream to chase after a shadow that didn't even exist?
Chu Hang's heart was pounding, as if a runaway pile driver had been shoved into his chest. To be honest, he wasn't sure himself. That guy codenamed "Hound" felt too dangerous to him, like a venomous snake lurking in the shadows; you never knew when or from what angle he would strike.
His final words, "It's a little more interesting than I imagined," sent a chill down Chu Hang's spine. This didn't sound like the reaction of a prey escaping; it sounded more like... the excitement of finding a new toy?
Damn it, I can't care about anything else now!
In Chu Hang's mind, the little figure in the suit jumped out again, pointing at his nose and shouting: "Why think so much? Do you still want to stay here and have a cup of tea with him and chat about the philosophy of life? Now is your only window of opportunity! The only one! If you are a step too slow, he will turn you into a specimen and hang you on the wall!"
Now!immediately!immediately!
Chu Hang roared and yanked Gabe, who was still standing there in a daze, up from the ground. He didn't give Gabe any time to think or hesitate. He slung Gabe's arm over his shoulder and, with all his might, practically dragged and carried him out of the narrow cave.
The biting wind, mixed with icy snowflakes, instantly covered their faces.
"Chu! Did he... did he really fall for it?" Gabu shivered from the cold and couldn't help but ask as Chu Hang dragged him along.
"How should I know!" Chu Hang gritted his teeth, feeling the heavy weight coming from Gabu, and trudged through the snow with difficulty. "All I know is that if we don't run now, we're doomed! Stop talking nonsense and save your energy!"
He dared not linger for even a moment, nor even glance back upstream. All his attention was focused on his feet and on Gabu in his arms. He raced downstream at a pace that was not fast, but remarkably steady.
Each step he took on the thick snow crunched and groaned, sounding particularly jarring in the silent snow-covered forest. Chu Hang's heart was in his throat, fearing that the freakish person's hearing was just as good as his tracking ability.
One hundred meters, fifty meters, twenty meters...
The cold river, shimmering in the moonlight, drew ever closer.
Finally, the two of them scrambled to the riverbank.
"No time, jump!" Chu Hang glanced at the dark forest behind him, feeling as if a pair of eyes were watching them. Without thinking, he roared, grabbed Gabu, and plunged into the river.
The icy river water instantly submerged their bodies.
Even though Chu Hang had the physique of Wolverine, he couldn't help but swear the moment he touched the river water.
That wasn't cold, that was pain! It was the kind of excruciating pain that felt like thousands of ice needles were piercing every pore of your body at the same time! Your blood felt like it was about to freeze instantly, and your heart skipped a beat.
If he's like this, imagine what Gabe, who's right next to him, must be like.
Gabu's body stiffened abruptly in the water. He didn't even have time to scream before he nearly fainted from the intense cold and the pain in his leg.
"Wake up! Gabe! Don't fucking fall asleep!" Chu Hang felt Gabe's body go limp and was terrified. He knew that in this temperature, losing consciousness meant certain death.
He slapped Gabu hard on the back, then with all his might, dragged him toward the center of the river.
The river was shallow, only chest-deep in most places, but the current was swift. The icy water relentlessly washed over their bodies, drawing away the last trace of warmth. Chu Hang's teeth began to chatter uncontrollably; he could feel his bodily functions rapidly declining.
The healing factor did make him much more resilient than the average person, but it wasn't a panacea. He could feel his wounds healing and his physical abilities recovering, but the rate of recovery couldn't keep up with the rate of heat loss.
He had to get Gabe away from this damn river as soon as possible.
As he struggled through the water, he used his enhanced eyesight to quickly scan the downstream riverbank, searching for a place to hide.
Just then, his ears twitched slightly.
