Chapter 1730 - 1668: Discussing Separation
Since her last meeting with Madam Wang, Wufu never saw her again. The news about her, Wufu only learned through others.
Just as Madam Wang had foretold, news of her serious illness soon spread, and before long she ’passed away’ from the illness. As Wufu had anticipated, Madam Wang’s final act of protection for her son involved secretly using Wu Yilin to administer Sterility Drug to Wu Lihong, depriving him of the ability to have children.
Upon hearing this, Wufu shrugged it off with a smile. Not long after, Wu Lihong offended the Emperor of Nanyue over a trivial matter and was stripped of his official title, becoming a retired father-in-law at home, but that’s a story for another time.
A month after Madam Zhou’s passing, Changsheng had reached his full month. Thanks to meticulous care and management, the little one had grown, although not as chubby as other full-term babies, he was nonetheless very fair and exquisitely handsome. His eyes were especially reminiscent of Hua Wushuang’s almond-shaped eyes.
Wufu felt quite jealous since the child bore little resemblance to her. If there was anything that resembled her, it was only the lips.
Perhaps because Hua Wushuang often took care of the little one, Xiao Changsheng resembled him even more, which delighted Hua Wushuang immensely.
"Has your Unparalleled Tower gone bankrupt or changed hands? You spend the whole month here without fear of being replaced!" Wufu said to Hua Wushuang sarcastically.
"It’s only Unparalleled Tower, nothing much. If you want it, you can have it, anyway your club is doing quite well!" Hua Wushuang said, playing with a rattle to amuse Xiao Changsheng, without looking up.
Ah Jiu interjected before Wufu could speak: "Uncle, there’s no need. We are soon to return to Beiyan, so it’s hard to manage." Giving it to Wufu would only mean frequent trips to the Rabbit Building, which would be unacceptable.
Hua Wushuang paused his rattling and handed it to the wet nurse next to him, instructing, "He should have his milk, go and feed him."
The wet nurse nodded respectfully, bowed to everyone, and left carrying the basket that held Xiao Changsheng.
Once the child was out of sight, Hua Wushuang turned to Wufu and the others, asking, "Have you set a date for departure?"
Wufu remained silent, tracing the patterns on her teacup.
Ah Jiu replied, "It’s just days until the New Year. I’m thinking of leaving after the New Year. Staying here longer might make higher-ups uneasy."
The envoy from Beiyan that came earlier had already gone back. Ah Jiu stayed behind due to personal matters, and then came the situation with Madam Zhou. He married Wufu before Madam Zhou’s passing, and the news had spread widely, thus remaining to mourn his mother-in-law seemed reasonable.
Yet, it’s impossible to keep mourning indefinitely. After all, Beiyan is his true home. Lingering here might create suspicions that he has other intentions.
"Leave after the New Year, returning to Beiyan just in time for spring." Ah Jiu said.
A trace of sadness flickered across Hua Wushuang’s face; he opened his mouth but said nothing.
What right did he have to request them to stay?
Seeing this, Wufu lowered her eyes slightly and said, "After all, you haven’t settled down, no attachments. You can do business anywhere, perhaps take a trip to Beiyan, a journey across the world."
Hua Wushuang looked at her with surprise.
Wufu scoffed. If it weren’t for his genuine care for Changsheng, she wouldn’t have invited him at all, regardless of where he was.
Ah Jiu gently squeezed Wufu’s hand and smiled at Hua Wushuang, "Our thoughts align. Uncle isn’t married yet, you can tour Beiyan, it’ll be lively with family all together."
Family all together!
Hua Wushuang’s heart stirred, his thumb and forefinger rubbing together, with a hint of temptation.
